Each chapter has the same, very well organised structure. The major theories and arguments are discussed, everything is well exposed. Greek words are written with Greek font, making them pleasant to read. The exposition is excellent. I may not agree with all the conclusion of the author (for example, I think that Schnelle's datation of the synoptics at around 90 AD and John in the 1st half of the 2nd century is too late). Nevertheless, this book surpasses any other book I have read by its clarity, readability and balance. It is really a scientific work (I don't use the word "science"with its positivist reduction to what is quantified...). Another German intro. to the NT which I like is Erich Mauerhofer's Einleitung in die Schriften des Neuen Testaments (2 vols.), which is very clear, but not so balanced, too much focussed on a protestant fundamentalist perspective, although serioulsy engaging with the NT scholarship. I prefer however Schnelle's present book. It is a pity that Schnelle's excellent book is not translated into English or French. It deserves to be translated in many languages. In the meanwhile such books prove that Germans are still the best at Christian theology and anyone seriously interested has to learn German to read such books... Eine Rezension von Ein Kunde vom 12.
